As parents, we love our children deeply and will do anything to protect them. However, the reality is that we cannot be with them 24/7. This is why we must focus on child empowerment, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves in our absence.
We believe that preventing child abuse starts early—beginning as young as age 2—through age-appropriate education that instills confidence and awareness in children.
We teach essential body safety principles:
- The parts of their body covered by a swimsuit are private.
- No one is allowed to touch those areas.
- It is perfectly okay to say “NO.”
- If something doesn’t feel right, they must tell a trusted adult and keep telling until they are heard.
Most importantly, we emphasize this truth: they will be believed. Children do not fabricate stories of sexual abuse.
Through education, advocacy, and prevention-focused initiatives—including support for legislation like Erin’s Law—we strive to ensure every child has the right to safety, autonomy, and protection from exploitation. Additionally, we provide survivor support to help those who have faced abuse.
We are also developing age-appropriate prevention education programs and videos for children ages 2 through college, which include critical guidance on digital and online safety.
Ending childhood sexual abuse requires more than just prevention—it necessitates healing and child empowerment. As a survivor, I understand the heavy burden of silence, shame, and survival. I also recognize that healing starts the moment we share our truth.
Through TECA and the #Shame2Strength movement, we are dedicated to:
- Reframing shame as a societal failure—not a survivor’s burden
- Creating safe, supportive spaces for survivors to share their stories
- Empowering individuals to transform shame into strength
We support adult survivors through peer-based healing programs, including a 12-step model, where individuals can connect, be heard, and rebuild within a community focused on preventing child abuse.
The truth is: predators thrive in silence. When survivors feel believed, supported, and no longer isolated—we begin to break the cycle.
